Finding Junior's

Junior’s who? One might ask. Well, it’s actually a what, not who.

It is something special. Otherwise, we wouldn’t dare walk down the streets of New York City in the middle of the night trying to find it. After walking 20 blocks from Holiday Inn Manhattan at 6th Avenue (this is the hotel’s published address although it is along West 26th Street near 6th Avenue) which was our home while in NYC, we reached Junior’s near Times Square at past 1 AM only to find out that it was already closing time. With a bit of frustration, we walked 20 blocks again back to our hotel vowing to return with vengeance the morning after. There are other Junior’s in Grand Central Terminal and Brooklyn but the one in Times Square along West 45th Street between Broadway and 8th Avenue is nearest to us.

We arrived here too late, way past operating hours.

But wait a minute, what is Junior’s?

When we think of NYC, top-of-mind would probably be the Central Park, Statue of Liberty, Broadway, Empire State Building, Brooklyn Bridge, and of course, how can one forget the New York cheesecake. Junior’s claim to fame is its having been declared by the New York Magazine as “the best cheesecake” in NYC. In fact, even our hop on-hop off tour guide endorsed it. We’ve just tasted cheesecake from Cheesecake Factory a few days back while in Chicago and we thought that being in NYC was an opportune time for us to try its famous New York cheesecake.

We woke up early the following morning and our first order of the day was undoubtedly to grab a slice of Junior’s.

En route to Junior's, we passed by some iconic landmarks along
7th Avenue including the Madison Square Garden, Penn Station,
Parsons and tributes to fashion icons through the Fashion Avenue.

Almost there, after walking down 20 blocks more or less . . .

Finally here, early enough to get in.

 Multiple cheese (What's your choice?)

Decided to have a slice of the plain cheesecake and
another slice of cheesecake with strawberry toppings.

How can one describe the Junior's cheesecake? Maybe enticingly
irresistible. Definitely rich, smooth, creamy, mouth-watering,
melt-in-your-mouth goodness. But surely, "caloriefic" !!!

Apparently, aside from Junior's, there's another name that typifies the New York cheesecake. We have not tried it though - reserving it for our next New York visit.

  1. I think Junior's new york cheesecake is the best. I thought i had it when i tried Cheesecake Factory but the moment i tried Junior's cheesecake, I forgot all about Cheesecake Factory. For me now, it's already Junior's cheesecake or nothing.

  2. The ones with toppings are sweeter than ever. I'd go for the basic one - the plain cheesecake, as simple as ever. I don't want confusion in my taste buds. :-)

    1. Yes. The ones with toppings are just too sweet. The plain one is still the best.

  3. Hope you can try the other one too and post a blog about it. Would love to hear about it and how it compares with Junior's.
